My Father Tatuaje La Union Red Humidor Set – Review

2025 My Father Tatuaje La Union Red Humidor Set – Review

So here it is. The second half of one of the most thoughtful collaborations in recent cigar memory. The La Union Red Humidor finally dropped—and yes, it lives up to the buildup.

My Father Tatuaje La Union Red Humidor Set Review

If you’ve been following the story, you already know: this project isn’t just a co-branding stunt. It’s personal. It’s Pete Johnson and the García family celebrating 20 years of working side-by-side, turning out some of the best cigars in the game. With the Red Humidor, they switch roles—Pete blending for My Father, and the Garcías blending for Tatuaje. It’s kind of poetic.

Two Cigars, Two Stories

Let’s start with the basics. You’re getting two blends, both rolled in a 7¼ x 50 Churchill Especial vitola. Nice format—classy, not oversized. The cigars use a 109-style cap, which adds a little refinement and history to the shape.

  • Tatuaje’s blend comes wrapped in an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed leaf, with Nicaraguan binder and filler underneath. It’s got a covered foot, and a secondary band that reads “For My Father.”
  • My Father’s blend, on the flip side, wears a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper—origin not disclosed—also over Nicaraguan binder and filler. Open foot. Band reads “Tatuaje.”

And yes, they smoke different. Not wildly different, but enough to notice.

Smoking Experience

The Sumatra-wrapped Tatuaje blend? It’s elegant. Starts off with warm spice—kind of nutmeg-y—but smooths out into cedar, cocoa, a hint of citrus on the retrohale. Burn was solid. Ash held up longer than expected. It’s not a powerhouse, but there’s strength under the surface. Like a calm confidence.

Now the My Father blend… different vibe. The Broadleaf brings that chewy, rich texture—coffee, earth, maybe even molasses. More intensity, especially through the nose. This one felt more “after dinner.” Both had excellent draw and good smoke output, no fuss.

The Humidor

This thing isn’t just packaging—it’s furniture. Glossy finish, gold hardware, double-logo design, and a slick internal layout. There’s a compartment tucked underneath for a humidifier, cedar dividers for organization, and a XIKAR Xi1 cutter nestled inside like a little bonus gift. Feels like it belongs on a shelf, not in a closet.

Only 3000 units made, with 1200 going to the U.S.. So yeah—it’s limited. And it feels that way.

My Father Tatuaje La Union Cigars Pros and Cons

✅ Pros

Unique Collaboration
A true one-of-a-kind project—two masters (Tatuaje & My Father) blending cigars for each other. You don’t see that every day.

Rare & Limited
Only 3000 humidors produced (with 1200 going to the U.S.). It’s collectible, exclusive, and likely to gain value over time—if you can resist smoking them.

Beautiful Presentation
The humidor is stunning. High-gloss finish, dual-branding, premium interior layout, and a custom XIKAR Xi1 cutter included. Looks and feels like a showpiece.

Two Distinct Blends
You’re getting two very different experiences in one box. The Sumatra blend brings spice and finesse; the Broadleaf delivers richness and depth.

Excellent Construction
Both blends are handcrafted by top-level rollers. Slow, careful production (250 cigars per day total) means consistency and precision.

❌ Cons

Expensive
Luxury isn’t cheap. The price point makes this a splurge—not ideal for casual buyers or those just getting into cigars.

Limited Availability
If you don’t act fast, you’ll miss it. And once it’s gone, it’s gone. No re-issues or refills expected.

Not for Beginners
Both blends lean medium-to-full in strength and complexity. Newer smokers might find them a bit overwhelming.

Box-Only Format
No singles offered. You’ll need to commit to the full humidor to try these—hard pass for those who want to “sample before they spend.”
