The Cohiba Puro Dominicana Robusto is a Dominican puro from top to bottom. Dominican wrapper. Dominican binder. Dominican long-fillers. Simple on paper, but there is quite a bit going on once you light it.
It begins with earth and dark wood. A little pepper comes in quickly, followed by leather, roasted nuts, and hints of coffee. The smoke is thick. Rich too. There is a mild sweetness in the background, but the deeper tobacco flavors stay in control.
At 5.5″ x 50, the Robusto is a comfortable size. Not too short. Not oversized. It gives the blend enough time to develop without turning into a two-hour smoke.
This is not the soft, creamy side of Cohiba. The Puro Dominicana has more earth, spice, and weight behind it. A good cigar after dinner. Even better with dark coffee, bourbon, or aged rum.
