The HVC Edición Especial 2015 Gordo Box Press is a bigger cigar, but it does not feel lazy or watered down. The flavor is there right away.
Earth first. Dark cocoa too. Then espresso, cedar, leather, and a steady black pepper note that stays in the background without taking over. There is some sweetness underneath it all, just enough to round out the darker flavors.
The Mexican San Andrés wrapper gives the cigar that rich, maduro character. Deep, earthy, a little oily. Underneath, the Nicaraguan binder and fillers bring structure, spice, and that roasted tobacco core that keeps the blend feeling balanced.
At 6″ x 60, this Gordo burns cooler and slower than the Toro. More smoke. More time for the flavors to open up. The box-pressed shape helps it sit comfortably in the hand, and the larger ring gauge gives the blend a smoother feel even though it still has plenty of body.
Rated 94 points, the HVC Edición Especial 2015 Gordo BP is medium to full-bodied overall. Rich enough for an evening smoke. Smooth enough that it never feels like work.
