The Dunbarton Red Meat Lovers Porterhouse (6″ x 60) was never supposed to be subtle.
This is the largest cut in the regular Red Meat Lovers lineup. Six inches. Sixty ring. A thick, box-pressed cigar built around dark tobacco and a lot of flavor.
Connecticut Broadleaf handles the outside. Underneath sits a San Andrés Negro binder surrounding Nicaraguan and U.S. filler tobaccos.
Then things get heavy. Dark chocolate. Espresso. Oak. Earth. Leather. Black pepper. Toasted tobacco. Even a little savory character that makes the whole steak theme suddenly make a lot more sense.
The larger ring gauge slows the blend down. Thick clouds of smoke. Plenty of richness. Enough time for the pepper and darker flavors to move around instead of piling on all at once.
It is full-bodied. No question. But that does not mean one-dimensional.
There is sweetness from the Broadleaf. Spice underneath. Darker roasted flavors in between. A lot happening in a very big cigar.
