A dark Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper surrounds Aganorsa-grown Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. The combination delivers plenty of dark character with notes of espresso, cocoa, earth, toasted wood and black pepper. A little sweetness from the Maduro wrapper works its way in as the cigar settles down.
The giant 70-ring gauge produces thick clouds of cool smoke and a long, slow burn. This isn’t the cigar you grab when you’re in a hurry.

The JFR Lunatic Maduro La Montaña lives up to its name. La Montaña means “The Mountain.” At 7″ x 70, that sounds about right.
This is a massive cigar built around a dark Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper with Aganorsa-grown Nicaraguan tobacco underneath for both the binder and filler.
There’s a lot of leaf here. And plenty of flavor to go with it.
The opening brings earth and black pepper. Pretty quickly, darker flavors start coming through. Espresso. Cocoa. Toasted wood. A little leather.
Then the Maduro wrapper starts showing some sweetness. Not sugary.
More like a dark, natural sweetness sitting underneath the stronger Nicaraguan tobacco.
The huge 70-ring gauge changes the way everything comes together. There is an enormous amount of filler burning at once, which produces thick smoke and keeps the cigar running cooler than you might expect from something this big. It also takes its time. Seven inches of 70-ring tobacco isn’t going anywhere fast.
As the cigar moves along, the coffee gets darker. Cocoa hangs around. Pepper comes and goes. Toasted wood and earth stay underneath most of the way. There’s strength here, but the size spreads everything out. Big flavors. Big smoke. Very little subtlety about the dimensions.
The JFR Lunatic Maduro La Montaña Box of 28 is for the smoker who looks at a normal Toro and wonders where the rest of the cigar went.
