The La Gloria Cubana Serie R Black Maduro No. 54 Box of 18 gives you a darker side of La Gloria Cubana without going all the way into giant ring gauge territory. At 6″ x 54, this cigar has some size to it, but it still feels comfortable. Good draw. Dense smoke. A slow pace.
This one is about dark flavor. The Maduro wrapper brings that deep, almost gritty sweetness, while the Nicaraguan tobacco gives it backbone. You get black pepper early, then roasted coffee, cocoa, earth, and a little charred wood as it warms up. It does not taste soft or polished in a boring way. It has some bite. That is part of the appeal.
The No. 54 is a nice pick when you want something bold but not clumsy. It has more focus than a huge 60 ring cigar, with enough ring gauge to keep the smoke cool and full. A good after-dinner cigar. Also good for the smoker who wants rich Maduro flavor with a little muscle behind it.

Tasting Notes:
Black pepper, dark earth, roasted coffee, bitter cocoa, charred oak, espresso, leather, and a touch of Maduro sweetness.
The cigar opens with pepper and dry earth. A few minutes in, the smoke thickens and the coffee note starts to show. Cocoa comes in behind it, darker and a little bitter.
Around the middle, the No. 54 gets smoother but not mild. Espresso, leather, and charred wood take over. The finish hangs around with spice, roasted tobacco, and that dark Maduro sweetness.
